Fund “Sukhumi” summed up activities held within the framework of the project “Active involvement of women in political life of Georgia through integration of gender perspectives and democratization of electoral processes” implemented with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy.
In the forum participated members of Clubs of Women-Voters from four regions of Western Georgia (Imereti, Samegrelo, Guria, Adjara), representatives of the local self-government bodies of different cities, guests from Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In the first part of the forum was made a situational analysis of women’s participation in the local self-government. Members of the Club of Women-Voters evaluated outcomes of yearly work.
Mrs. Sevda Mamedova (Azerbaijan) and Mrs. Valentina Karhanjeva (Armenia) told about their experiences.
During the second part of the forum a lawyer, Tamar Pachulia, acquainted attendees with the amendments needed to be implemented in the Election Legislation, prepared by Fund “Sukhumi”. Then participants of the forum worked in groups according to the regions. All the four groups elaborated strategic plan “More women in the local self-government” taking into account the specific of their regions.
In completion there was elaborated a common strategic plan according to the works of the groups.
Participants were satisfied with the held forum.
- I think that the work carried out by Fund “Sukhumi” has good outcomes. The Club of Women-Voters gave me an incentive. I’ve made a decision to be a candidate for the local self-government elections, - Maguli Giorgadze (member of the Club of Women-Voters in Kutaisi).

- The work was very interesting. I got acquainted with the activity of Fund “Sukhumi”, saw great strength of women. I wish the whole Caucasus was united and that there were women-presidents in all three republics. Only then we’ll win, - Vasilia Avilgasanova (Azerbaijan).
The issues raised at the forum worry women of Caucasus. The more active and united we are it will be easier to find the ways for solution of our problems, - Anaid Shahbazyan (Armenia).
