On November 13 in Zugdidi there were carried out civil debate on the topic "Violence in family and its social results”, organized by Fund "Sukhumi”. The meeting was attended by the representatives of IDP community, teachers, students, psychologists, and also members of EUMM. In their speeches experts told about the situation in regard to domestic violence, results of the last sociological research, psycho-social aspects of violence, psychogenesis of violator and victim. Discussions showed that the majority of society accuse victim of violence. Since family has been considered as an independent, inviolable element for long time, violence in family was not perceived as a social problem. Unfortunately there is not a real statistic, and no exchange of information. It is impossible to understand why medical institutions don’t generalize existing information. Doctors of ambulance service say that they "have to face with beaten women several times per week”. But a stigma "she deserved it”, existing in society forces victim not to react to the happened. Attendees paid attention to the issue of teenagers. It became clear that of 15 teenagers being in Zugdidi prison 13 were from violent families. There was set a question whether society is tolerant to the children from such families. Participants of the meeting admitted that these children feel themselves offcast. And their formation as full fledged members of society is the issue of State importance. Members of the EUMM fixed their position that the problem of domestic violence needs serious investigation and irreconcilable attitude.
