Cultural-Humanitarian Fund "Sukhumi”

In the office of Fund “Sukhumi there were gathered lawyers of different city services, students of juridical faculty under the leadership of the experts of the organisations. The topic of the conversation was domestic violence, the law of Georgia against domestic violence, quality of its implementation and monitoring system.

Experts of Fund “Sukhumi” and persons involved in the project acquainted attendees with the information gathered as a result of the long-term work concerning the problem of domestic violence and unity of legal and social mechanisms against this problem.

Participants of the Round table fixed their opinions about the law, talked about its strengths and weaknesses. The special attention was paid to the prevention mechanisms and the issue of competence of legal bodies.

They mentioned unanimously that for the full-fledged implementation of the Law, the budget should include financial means needed for functioning of shelters for victims and rehabilitation centres for violators. “Unfortunately, it gives such an impression whether only non-governmental sector is interested in the effectiveness of the Law, - was told at the meeting.

In the elaborated recommendations attention was paid to the necessity of making changes in the Law, importance of its popularization, timely training of the representatives of law-enforcement bodies and the issue of State attitude to the problem. They emphasized the necessity of monitoring by non-governmental sector.
